2010 DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES

(New Dirt Dawg Trails Series Coordinator:  Ken Seidl! Thanks Ken!)

Course Descriptions (Trail Blog)

The DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES is a way to encourage friendly competition amongst the runners who appreciate off road running on the trails of the Miami Valley’s wonderful public parks. A little mud and dirt never spoils a good run.

RULES & REGULATIONS
▲ Be an ORRRC member – See the ORRRC website www.orrrc.org for information.
â–˛ Sign up before 31 May 2010, include your name, gender, age on 31 May 2010, and email address (if available).
▲ In order to be recognized as a DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES “Finisher” and be eligible for awards, run any 7 of the 12 trail races and participate in at least one volunteer opportunity. Anyone finishing all 12 trail races and participating in at least one volunteer opportunity will receive special recognition. Special recognition will be given to the DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES “Finisher” with the most volunteer points.
▲ Scores will be determined by each runner’s overall race finish position in relationship to other DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES participants as listed in the official results posted on the ORRRC website. Points will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st place - 100 points
  • 2nd place - 99 points
  • 3rd place - 98 points
  • 4th place - 95 points
  • 5th place - 94 points as so forth to
  • Places 100 & higher - 1 point

After the Sugarcreek 5K / 10K races, the scores will be calculated retroactively for the previous races and will be posted. Scores for Overall and Age Group results will be updated after each remaining race. The final Overall and Age Group results will be determined by taking the total of each participants’ highest seven scores plus volunteer and other bonus points. Participants who do not complete 7 of the 12 trail races and/or participate in at least one volunteer opportunity will be dropped along with their accumulated scores.

  • Female & Male Age Groups: 10 & under, 11-14, 15-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+

▲ All participants are required to take an active volunteering role at least once during the year in order to be a DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES “Finisher”. After fulfilling the initial requirement, additional volunteer service will be rewarded with bonus points to be added to each participant’s position score. No bonus points will be given for fulfilling the initial requirement. Everyone’s going to pitch in and experience the other side of our races.

Volunteering falls into two categories:
Running Volunteers will receive a 5 point bonus each time they volunteer after their initial service. Running volunteers will also receive the points from their overall race finish position.

Non-Running Volunteers will receive a 10 point bonus each time they volunteer after their initial service. No overall score will be given. If you can’t run due to an injury or just don’t care to race, you can still receive credit for the race by volunteering. As in the past, it is possible to be a DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES “Finisher” without actually running a race.

Race Directors will receive a 25 point bonus and credit for the race for each race they direct in lieu of the Non-Running Volunteer 10 point bonus.

Volunteer points will be given to those people whose names are submitted on the official listing from each Race Director. Each person is responsible for contacting the Race Director prior to the race in order for the Race Director to determine whether or not volunteers are needed for the event. We don’t want to overload our Race Directors with volunteers, nor do we want them to come up short staffed.

▲ Bonus Point Opportunity - Non-Running or Running Volunteers at a “Dawg Gone Long Run 50 Miler”, “John Bryan 50K”, “Another Dam 50K”, “Germantown 50K” or “Stone Steps 50K” races will receive a 10 point bonus for each 2 hour period of time spent volunteering. This time includes prior to race day setup / trail preparation, race day assistance, and post race cleanup. Volunteering for a two hour period of time at any of these races may be applied to the initial required service.
â–˛ Bonus Point Opportunity - In the event that it rains on race day as determined by the Race Director, all runners & non-running volunteers that day will receive a 10 point bonus added the overall position score.
â–˛ Additional Volunteer & Bonus Point Opportunities may be announced.
▲ In the event of a tie, the total combined running time for each participant from matching races will be the deciding factor. For example: Runner 1 and 2 tie for 3rd place. Runner 1 & 2 both ran races (Frosty 14, Possum Creek, Carriage Hill). Runner 1’s combined time for those matching three races is 1 hour & 49 minutes and Runner 2 was 2 hours & 20 minutes. Runner 1 therefore places 3rd and Runner 2 4th.
▲ Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place DIRT DAWG TRAIL SERIES “Finisher” in each Age Group and Overall Ranking. Awards to be determined.

Dirt Dawg Trail Series Results-2009

Updated 12/07/2009.  As of John Bryan Race.

Congrats to all the finishers!

Couple of notes about the results:  Those that cannot make the series (less than 5 races) have been removed.  I have revisited every race to reallocate the points to those that have 5 or more races in the series.

So if Jeff M (10 points) outran Andy H (9 points) at the Frosty 14. However, Jeff was unable to complete the series Jeff's points are removed and Andy is given the 10 points.

FAQs:
Whats the deal with the volunteer points?
I would like to promote volunteerism. After all, this is a 100% all volunteers group. Plus, if you are injured you can still help out and get points. The last thing I want to do is to hinder someone from supporting the series.

Why do I have to sign up before May?
The results are based on the competition between the Dawgs. If I add someone in August, and they were in the Jan and/or Feb races I would have to completely redo the results for every race. (Approx 2 hours per race). Not only that, it's unfair to the Dawgs that thought that they were in 3rd place and after I add you, they are in 5th.
