The Apple iPod is being blamed for more than 17 accidents per day in the UK.  They have coined the term “iPod Oblivion” because runners, walkers, bicyclists, etc. are “so into” their music that they ignoring or unable to hear the dangers of traffic around them.  If you run, walk, or ride with music while on the road, keep the level down so that you can hear the sound of approaching vehicles.  Remember to run or walk facing traffic, ride your bike with traffic, and go out of the way to make yourself highly visible, especially at dawn and dusk.  Be defensive – the car always wins.

Registration is now open for the ORRRC's largest event: The 32nd Annual Turkey Trot in Miamisburg, Ohio.

As always, this event takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 25 at 8:00AM.  Due to limited venue capacity, this year's 5-mile field will be limited to the first 7000 entries and the 1-mile field will be limited to the first 1000 entries.  And shirts are guaranteed to the first 8000 entrants.  So please sign up early to guarantee your starting spot and save on the cost of registration!

As we are always striving to improve this event, we've made a few minor changes, including:

• An upgraded shirt featuring steel-gray long sleeve moisture-wicking fabric and a 3-color front print.
• Pumpkin biscotti (cookies) at the post-race party, courtesy of the Sinclair Community College Culinary Arts Program.
• A new pre-race staging area for 5-mile walkers (on Linden between First and Second with overflow into the Cinder Path lot, as necessary).
• Special savings on shoes and apparel for those who register online, courtesy of Runners Plus.

Thanks to all who participated in the 2010 Lou Cox 5k on Memorial Day.  As you know, this race was a big success.  Participation was up and some really fast runners laid down some blazing fast times to collect some awesome prize money.

However, there was some confusion on race day regarding the distribution of t-shirts that prevented some pre-registered participants from receiving a shirt.  Oops!  Yeah, that sort of moots the point of pre-registering...

Hey, no problem, we've got you covered.  We've ordered an additional shipment of shirts to cover this shortfall.  If you pre-registered for the 2010 Lou Cox 5k and did not receive your shirt, then there is one waiting for you at the Endurance Sports store at 6056 Wilmington Pike.  Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Hello fellow runners!

6 years ago the ORRRC teamed up with the MVOC to create the "Trail-O" event to help folks get more out of the their fitness.

Orienteering opens a entirely new world -- the combination of fitness and real-time decisions makes it pretty great!

I am willing to go out with 2-3 folks on a team to assist in "real-time" training.  Compass and map reading skills are not difficult but need to be experienced.  Expect short jogs and many stops.  We will take turns in finding the checkpoints.
